INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
THE POSITION IN OTAGO. INDUSTRY HAMPERED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The influenza epidemic has not improved; in fact, it may be said to be a little worse. The number of notifications for the twenty-four hours ended, at noon to-day is: Otago Southland 3, Wallace 2. One death occurred Monday. Government departments are aeriously hampered, though municipal staffs have been more fortunate. Warehouses are not as badly affected as factorias, in which the absence of men who are connecting links is causing much disorganisation. All the city and primary schools are keeping open, but some in the country have closed. The re-opening of the Boys’ High School has been postponed, for another day. MILD CASES IN TIMARU. Timaru, Last Night. A mild form of influenza Is verypre-' valent amongst school children in Tim* aru, so much so that the Boys’ High School was closed at noon to-day till Monday next. There were a hundred absentees, twenty being boarders. In the Girls’ High School the absentees totalled about 10 per cent., but ft was not considered necessary to close. The Timaru main (primary) school had a hundred and five away yesterday, but the position was slightly better to-day« The other town schooU have suffered to a much less degree.
