STRIKE AT NOME.

MOVE FOR RESUMPTION. NEGOTIATIONS URGED. HOPE TO AVOID “CUT.” > s_ By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received July 10, 10.40 p.m. London, July 10. At a meeting lasting for five hours •lockers’ unofficial strike committee adopted a resolution asking the union officials to negotiate with the employers for a resumption of work, suggesting that the employers should waive the latest shilling wages cut, seeing that Parliament itself declares the cost of living basis is wrong. It is pointed out that this interpretation of Parliament’s opinion is open to question. Earlier in the day the annual conference of transport workers adopted a resolution urging the dockers to return to work, so as to maintain their organised strength and enable grievances to be dealt with unitedly. MEETING BREAKS UP. SOME LIVERPOOL MEN RESUME. London, July 9. A meeting of transporters at Hull broke up in disorder. Ben Smitji was subjected to continual interruption when he argued that the dockers’ agreement, whether good or bad, must run to the end of the year. The meeting passed a resolution in favour of the policy of an unofficial strike, adding that the men were willing to return to work for Ils a day if an inquiry into the cost of living was conceded.

London, July 9. Over half the Liverpool dockers have resumed work.

The transport workers’ conference rejected an amendment asking for the support of the dock strikers’ and adopted a motion requesting the strikers to resume work.
