CORRESPONDENCE.

INGLEWOOD COUNTY LOANS. (To the Editor.) Sir, —As one of the promoters of the petition asking for a fresh poll on the above proposals, 1 should like to remind ratepayers that the poll takes place on Wednesday next, July 11, and to ask all supporters to make a special point of recording their votes. It is hardly necessary to recall that at the previous poll the proposals were narrowly defeated, not by the strength of the opposition voting, but owing to a great number of supporters, for various and more or less adequate reasons, failing to appear at the polling booths. This statement of the position has been established by careful inquiry, and is not likely to* be seriously disputed. A great majority of the ratepayers believe that it would be financially impossible much longer to maintain, under the stress of present day traffic, a waterbound macadam reading system, and that the sooner a system of bitumensealing is instituted the better it will be for the ratepayers’ pockets. This being so, all supporters should roll up and vote on Wednesday, thus preventing the minority from obstructing the wishes of the majority, and ensuring that the Inglewood County’s roadlng methods shall no longer be amongst the most obsolete in the province. The county offices loan proposal needs very little comment. It is well established that the present offices are most inconveniently situated and equipped, and that in case of fire the county Is likely to be a heavy loser. In addition, the present offices are costing almost as much per annum as would provide the council with a convenient, fireproof and permanent habitation, so that supporting the county offices loan would involve no additional expense to ratepayers. In conclusion, I again urge all supporters to be sure and get their votes in. and, beyond question, the day will be ours. —I am, etc., IT. W. BAXTER. F.gmont Village, July 9, 1923.
