POSITION IN OTAGO. BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL CLOSED. Dunedin, Last Night. The medical officer of health (Dr. T. McKibbin) stated to-day that the position as regards the influenza epidemic in Otago and Southland showed at least a temporary improvement. The doctors here had had a busy time, but there was now a reduction in the number of cases. For the 24 hours ended at noon to-day no cases either of pneumonic influenza or of ordinary pneumonia had been notified. For the previous 24 hours the following pneumonic cases had been reported: Otago, three; Wallace, two; Waitaki, one; Southland, one. When the Otago Boys’ High School assembled this morning it was found that 147 boys were absent, most of them .suffering from influenza. Six of the masters were also absent and three or four of those present were not in the best of health. Under the circumstances it was decided to close the school till Wednesday morning. The Girls’ High School has also been affected, but not so seriously, and as only two teachers are incapacitated the school is being kept open.
