SECURITY IN THE AIR.

BRITAIN’S NEW PROGRAMME. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright London, July 6. Sir Samuel Hoare, addressing the National Citizens’ Union, referring to the new air programme, said: “We do not expect an attack from anyone, least of all from any of our old allies, but being a great Empire we must ensure national security. Whoever might be our friends, we could not leave our shores open to hostile attack, or live in sufferance with any Powers in the world. As we had a one-Power standard for the navy, we must have the same standard for the air force.” He said he wanted to strengthen the hands of the Government in order to bring about international restriction of air forces.
