At the meeting of the Plunket Society on Wednesday a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the staff of the P.A.C. and Masters, Ltd. for their willing assistance in the sale of flowers, and to Mrs. H. Masters for her valuable help) in staging the flowers. Votes of thanks were also passed to Mr. Newton King, Mr. Besley, Mrs. Amess, Mrs. Richards, Mrs. Copping, and Miss Burke and Mrs. Thompson for gifts of flowers. Miss M. Fugle, Midhirst, and Miss E. Fugle, “Meadow Bank,” Uruti will leave to-night for Auckland, where they spend a few weeks’ holiday. There were twelve pupils at the opening of the Technical High School plumbing class last night. Mr. W. Judd was the lecturer. The excavation for the central portion of the foundation of the new bridge on the north bank has been finished. The downstream section of arch has been completed, and work is well forward on the wall.
KING’S THEATRE. A picture of exceptional merit is the latest Paramount super-production “Blood and Sand,” starring Rudolph Valentino, which will be screened at the King’s Theatre on Monday night only. Apart from Mr. Valentino, the star, who is the most perfect lover the screen has ever known, and who is admired by more women in the world than any other man, the picture is full of action and thrills. “Blood and Sand” is from the pen of Vincente Blasco Ibanez, the author of “The Four Horsemen.” This in itself is sufficient guarantee of the success of the picture.
