RIFLE-SHOOTING.

PATEA v. NEW PLYMOUTH. The match for the Taranaki Rifle Club's Challenge Shield between New Plymouth and Patea was fired at the Rewa Rewa rifle range on Saturday, and resulted in New Plymouth retaining the shield by a margin of 32 point*. Though the day was fine, a strong south-u«t«r made shooting very difficult. The wind varied enough to put shots off the target, and many good scores were spoilt in this way. The local club provided refreshments for the visitors. The following are the scores.

MINIATURE SHOOTING. SATURDAY'S MATCHES. Shooting was continued by the club on Saturday night at the Coronation Hall, when some good scores were made. The sweepstake match was won by S. Higgs with a “possible,” and the "button” by 0. George, after shooting off with E. Hill. Both got "possibles." The highest scores (possible 50) were:— Sweepstake: Higgs 50, George 49, Taylor 48 (1), 49, Arnold 47 (2) 49. "Button”: George 50. Hill 50, Higgs 49, Taylor 49, Arnold 48. Biddle 47, Keating 45, Hartnell 45, B.’ Richardson 45. The lady members continued shoooting on Thursday night, when Miss M. Clark won the "button” with a fine score of 37. The best scores (possible) 40 were: —Miss M. Clark 87, Miss O. .Firth 33, Miss J. Ramson 33, Mias E. Whittle 32, Miss K. McCleland 30.
