EMPIRE EXHIBITION.
GRANT TO THE LATE MANAGER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received July 8, 11.5 p.m. London, July 7. The Pall Mall Gazette interviewed Sir James Allen, who said: “The agreement with Mr. Wintour (late general manager of the Empire Exhibition) was entered into before I came on the scene and I had no part in it. If I commented on it my comments would be rather severe. We have since examined the agreement and found it quite legal, and hence we have undertaken its ratfleation. Under the provisions of the agreement Mr. Wintour enjoyed extraordinary powers. 1 say ‘extraordinary,’ and will leave it at that. As for compensation, Mr. Wintour asked for much more than he finally got. The board acted in -the best interests of the exhibition." CENSUS OF ACCOMMODATION. London, July 6. The exhibition officials are taking a census of London accommodation, with a view of nroviding -room for millions of visitors next summer. It is believed that it mav be necessary to provide camps on the outskirts of London. The committee urges visitors to make the earliest arrangements for accommodation.
