FILLING THE GAP.
SOUTH-AUCKLAND SERVIU MAILS VIA NEW PLYMOUTH. SPECIAL TRIPS BY RARAWA. The mail and passenger service betweerf Auckland and the south, interrupted by the train disaster, is being maintained by the Rarawa, which is making special tript between Onehunga and New Plymouth until the Main Trunk line is cleared. The Rarawa left New Plymouth on Saturday night with 170 passengers and a heavy consignment of mails, which included, in addition to Auckland’s usual bags from the South, the Auckland portion o( the San Francisco mail which arrived at Wellington by the Maunganui on Thursday. A large number of the passenger* were travellers by the Main Trunk front Wellington on Thursday who were held up at Ohakune by the smash, while as many more were Aucklanders who could not wait until the line was cleared and came through from Wellington by the mai| train on Saturday. The Rarawa left Onehunga again yes? terday afternoon for New Plymouth and. is due to arrive about six o’clock this morning. She has on board mail for the South and a large number of She will sail on the return journey at 7.40 this evening, and will take with her five trunks of mails. which arrived at New Plymouth too late on Saturday night to connect with the boat. In addition shq will also take the southern Vancouver mails for transhipment to the Niagara, which leaves Auckland to-morrow. \ Another trip to New Plymouth will bq made to-morrow, the vessel leaving One* hunga at 3.30 p.m. and arriving at Nety Plymouth on Wednesday morning. The Rarawa will sail in the evening for Onehunga, and will leave that port on Thursday on the usual end of the week trip to New Plymouth.
