MAN PREYS ON FARMER. For a particularly mean theft, Tom Webster was convicted and sentenced at the Paeroa Police Court last week .to three months’ imprisonment for theft, by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. The accused, who was foot-sore and tired, was picked up on the PaeroaWaihi Road by a farmer, Harry Feaglar, who was told by the accused that he had walked the country looking for work and could get none. Feaglar took pity on the man and gave him a night’s rest and food. He left the accused in his house next day to rest while he went to do his work on the farm, and, returning later, he found that the accused had ransacked the place and left, taking with him £5 4s in cash and a . bicycle. The accused was arrested in Hikutaia, where he had sold the bicycle for £2.
