QUIET IN PARLIAMENT.
WORK BEGINS NEXT WEEK. THE NEW MINISTER. (By wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. To-day’s proceedings in Parliament were very quiet and the only matter which attracted more than ordinary interest was the notice given by Mr. Wilford (Leader of the Opposition) of his intention to move an amendment to the Address-in-Reply. It was expected that he would move an amendment, but no confidence amendments always attract attention. The proceedings this afternoon were brief and they will be brief to-morrow, when references will be made to legislators who have passed away in the recess. The first important business of the session will be commenced on Tuesday evening, when the Address-in-Reply debate will be launched. It seems clear that the chairman of committees is not going to be appointed until after the conclusion of the Ad-dress-in-Reply debate and up to the present no " announcement has been made as to who the new Minister is to be. The favourite at present is Mr. R. F. Bollard, member for Raglan, and senior whip of the Reform Party.
