THE CHILDREN’S PARK. (From Our Own Correspondent.) There was a large attendance at a special meeting called for the purpose cf discussing the additions to the Progress Committee’s Children’s Park proposal. Mr. G. W. Tayler (Mayor) occupied the chair. He explained the object of the meeting, and in doing so stated that the proposal was a very worthy cue and would be greatly appreciated ir the future. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, as a member o> the sub-committee, reported on the new additional proposal, apd explained that the new scheme would give an outlet to three streets, namely Mountain Road, Bridge Street and 'Stauners Street. The committee suggested the purchase of Mr. Judd s house and land for the purpose of providing a set of Plunket rooms and rest room. An outlet to Mountain Road was provided for iy Messrs. Ware, Taplen and Ritter, and Delauney donating sufficient land for a right-of-way. Eventually Mr. W. J. Tristram moved, and Mr. E. Clare seconded that the .meeting approve of the minor scheme. ■ln putting forward the motion Mr. Trisdram stated that it would dear the ait and the meeting would then only have cue proposal before it. The motion was lost. Mr. M. E. Fitzgerald then moved that the meeting approve of the minor scheme, and Mr. C. A. Wilkinson seconded. Mr. Tristram moved an amendmen. to the effect that the approval be subject to proper public right-of-ways beiro- secured. Mr. Chrystal seconded, aid there followed considerable disussion on the legal position, various speakers contending that it would be unfortunate to tip the hands of the committee in that way. The amendment was lost. Ihe original motion was then carried. r Mr Wilkinson then moved that the names of Messrs Tayler, Bridger and Crump be added to the committee,, amt tiiat Mr. C. L. Wilson lie appointed sceretarj'. Mr. Wilkinson spoke appreciatively of the work of the Process Committee in starting the proposal, especially the work of the chairman, Mr. Bridger. He then moved th a. the meeting record its thanks to the committee for its work in this connection, which was carried by acclamation.
