THE HYDRO WORKS.
EXPLANATION: Blair Mason, Lee, Owen and Brown write as follows:—We enclose a letter we have addressed to the Mayor in order to guard against a false impression which may have been’ created by the trend of the discussion at the council meeting, which centered almost entirely on kcal defects in the tunnel lining. W’c have his sanction to publish the letter and we would be obliged if you would give it prominence. ENCLOSURE. His Worship the Mayor, New Plymouth. Sir, —With reference to the accident to No. 2 tunnel of the Hydro-electric works we should like to state, in case of misapprehension, that the minor defects which have been found here and there in the tunnel lining have nothing whatever to do with the accident which has occurred and could be rectified in a few weeks at small cost. The accident was due to movement in the hill itself and would not have been prevented by the most perfect workmanship. —We are, etc., Blair Mason, Lee, Owen and Brown.
