In the third round of the amateur championship Tolley beat Marston (an American) three up and two after a notable game. * Humphries beat Wright (another American), but Willing, Ouimet, Nefille and Rotan reached the fourth round, and also Wethered, Harris, Lassen and Harry Braid. A surprise was caused by Douglas Grant (an American resident in Britain) beating Holdermess two up and one.
