A London cablegram reports the death of the well-known artist, Mr. Mark Fisher, R.A.

A Wellington message report® the death of Mr. James Lockie, builder, a well-known bowler, aged 89. Lord Carnarvon was buried at Beacpn Hill, Hampshire. A memorial service was held simultaneously in St. Margaret’s Church, Westminster.

A Sydney message reports the death of Mr. George Hughes, a veteran of the New Zealand War. He lived in the Veterans’ Home at La Perouse, and was 60 years of age.

Mr. A. H. Halcombe has been re-elec-ted unopposed to the Taranaki Hospital Board as the representative of the Clifton County.

Messrs. Stonex and Jones, of Bell Block, have returned after enjoyable trip through the Manawatu and Wairarapa.

Prior to the meeting of the Pukekura Park Board last night, a vote of condolence was passed to the chairman (Mr. C. E. Bellringer) in the sad loss recently sustained by his family.

A complimentary banquet was tendered at Palmerston North on Monday evening by Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., to Mr. R. S. Abraham, on his retirement from the position of general manager of the company. Mr. Abraham was presented with a gold watch from the directorate and staff. He will continue as chairman of the board. »
