BOXING.
TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. The committee of the Taranaki Boxing Association met last night. Present: Messrs. E. Jackson, M. G. Stagpoole, R. Barlow, W. J. Yardley, W. N. Stephenson, C. Grainger, J. Abbott, W.' Whitaker, J. Garcia, and C. H. Wynyard (secretary). Mr. E. Jackson was elected chairman, and Mr. E. Whittle deputychairman. Committees were set up as follow: Match committee—chairman, deputy-chairman, and Messrs. R. Barlow, W. Whitaker, M. G. Stagpoole; house committee, Messrs. W. N. Stephenson, W. J. Yardley, C. Grainger, J. Abbott, F. Brenfnuhl, and R. Bennoeh; publicity committee, Messrs. E. Jackson, J. Garcia, R. Barlow and C. Grainger. Messrs. E. Jackson, E. Whittle, J. Garcia, I. Abbott, W. Whitaker, C. Grainger, and W. J. Yardley were appointed to the centre committee. It was resolved to hold a tournament on June 4 in the Empire Theatre, the arrangements to be left in the hands of the house and match committees. The same committee met as the Taranaki centre, Mr. C. Grainger representing Stratford, and Mr. J. Abbott represented Eltham. The Hawera Boxing Association was granted permission to hold a tournament at Hawera on May 9. It was resolved to vote in favor of the North Island championships being held at Napier. An endeavor is to be made to have the North Island championships in Taranaki at a future date. It was resolved to ask the Hawera, Eltham and Stratford to appoint two delegates to the centre committee. MATCH FOR DEMPSEY. Received May 1, 950 p.m. * New York, May 1. According to a Chicago telegram, Loy Molumby, a promoter, has announced that Dempsey would fight Tom Gibbons, of St. Paul, at Shelby, Montana, on July 4, the match to be of 15 rounds. It is understood Dempsey's purse is 30,0,000 dollars.
