ELECTION PETITION.
CASE OF SIR M. POMARE. TAL’RANGA EVIDENCE CONCLUDED Bj Telegraph - -Press Association. Tauranga, Last Night. The hearing of the petition against the election of Sir Maui Poma re was continued to-day. Evidence was given this morning regarding the meeting at Matapihi, at which Pomare was said to have threatened to punish natives who did not vote for him. The evidence was a demal that any such threat wag wade. Ihe greater portion of the morn: ig ’•/.is taken up with evidence refuting the allegation tb.it natives were created to drink at the Muir mine during Pomares meeting there. George Muir, manager of Muir's Goldmining Company, denied that any whisky' was served to natives either in the house or outside, and any statement to the contrary was an absolute falsehood Several witnesses were examined as to i the alleged occurrence and asserted i that nothing of the kind took place. Mr. C. I*. Skerrett, K.C. (for the petitioner) said two girls who were alleged to have served liquor had not been seen since the occurrence and the Bench decided to summon them to attend the Court. The servants stated they saw no liquor there, nor any being served to natives, nor were any drunk on that occasion.
The hearing was adjourned to Anck land.
