BAND CONTEST.

FURTHER ARRANGEMENTS MADE.

DESIGN OF MEDALS.

The arrangements for the forthcoming band contest at New Plymouth were further advanced last night at a meeting cf the executive. There were p(resent: Messrs. H. S. Brookman (chairman), E. J. Sole, F. Coleman, H. R. Cattley, A. L. Humphries, F. J. Hill, F. Newell. Archdeacon Evans and the secretary (Mr E. L. Humphries). The sub-committee reported that they had accepted Mr. J. Bennett’s tender for the medals for the contest. The medals designed arc in the form of a lyre with the initials “N.1.8.8.A.” across' the bar at the top. and the wordn “New Plymouth, 1923” surrounding an engraving of Mt. Egmont'in a raised circle at the base. The medals, gold for first and silver for second, are of a distinctive and uncommon design. Captain D. E. Bremrter, M.C., N.Z.S.C., Hawera, notified his acceptance of the appointment as one of the military Judges for the quickstep contest. T. Bennett and F. C. Ferry also inti« mated that they would be willing to acfl atf timekeepers. It was decided to request the HigH School Old Girls’ Association to undertake the service at the refreshment booths at the Park during the week. The executive will supply all necessaries and will divide the net profits with them in equal shares. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. J. Bonnett for his donation of a medal for the conductor of the winning band in the B grade contest.
