DEBTS OF THE WAR,
AMERICAN LEGISLATION. TERMS WITH BRITAIN. By Telegraph.— Assn.—Copyright. New York, Feb. 5. According to the Washington correspondent of the New York Times, President Handing will confer to-morrow with the leaders of the House and Senate concerning the British debt legislation. The President will do everything in his power to avoid any addition or amendment to the Bill to provide for a /oldiers’ bonus, but, should this be done, it is expected the amendment will be killed in the Senate. President Harding haa received reports, that opposition to the funding is steadily decreasing, and that thei- will probably be less than twenty Senators against the measure. It is pointed out that th,? opposition, which will take the grmim of too lenient terms, will be unaifio to overcome the fact that, in view of i.be American Debt Commission's acceptance of these terms, it is improbable the British would accept more stringent conditions if negotiations wore reopened. Washington, Feb. 5. The loader of the House (Mr. Mondell). following on a conference with President Harding, that the President will send his debt message to Copptcss nn Tuesday. M». Mondell slates the President will not attempt io dictate a settlement, but has decided to let the Congressmen work out a solution. so Ion" as speedy action is as-sured.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
