THE MINE FIRE.

Greymouth, Feb. 6. The Blackball mine was unsealed on Saturday, in the hope of reaching the main fire area but, owing to heavy falls in the main air return, the result of heating, it was impossible to penetrate the back end of the fire area and the mine was re-sealed for a further period, so that the fire may be smothered by the fumes generated by it. The slip in the main haluage. rope road tunnel at the State mine has been cleared, and the miners are working to-day. A METER TAM PURER. Hamilton, Feb. 6. Harry S&meul Taylor was fined £2O and costa for having tampered with the electric meter at his promises in a manner calculated to rob the borough of revenue.
