BAR TO ASIATICS.

PROPOSAL BY AMERICA. BLOW TO JAPANESE. ADMITTING ARMENIANS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received February 6, 9 p.m. Washington, Feb. 5. Japanese, Chinese and low caste Hindoos will be excluded under the Bill which the House Immigration Committee has adopted. The committee is convinced it is justified in excluding Japanese since the Supreme Court decision decided that Japanese could not become citizens ox the United States. The committee had adopted a 2 per cent, immigration quota, the provision being based on the 1890 census. The provis'on, however, makes many exceptions, which probably will permit the admission of as many immigrants as under the present three per cent. law. The Senate has passed a Bill to admit twenty-five thousand Armenian children to the United States. The measure also admits between five and six thousand Armenian adults in excess of the quota allowed under the immigration law.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
