CRICKET.

M.C.C. V. TRANSVAAL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Capetown, Feb. 5. At cricket Transvaal in the first innings against Marylebone scored 171 (Catterall 68). Macaulay took four wickets for 30 and Fender four for 60. Marylebone in the second innings had lost one wicket for 142 (Russell 56, Sandham not out 60) when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine and the wicket good. With the exception of Catterall the Transvaalers made a poor showing against the good bowling and fielding, Macaulay’s leg theory proving most effective. The Englishmen adopted careful tactics against the good bowling. FOUR-FIGURE SCORE. VICTORIA’S GREAT EFFORT. Melbourne, Feb. 6. Replying to Tasmania’s innings score of 217. Victoria scored 1059 (Ponsford 429, Love 156). The whole team scored double figures.. Ponsford batted eight hours and hit 42 fours.
