SENTENCES PASSED.

Wellington, Feb. 5,
William Holland Makin, Leonard Walter Makin, and Percy Dowling Hawkins, who had pleaded guilty in connection with the Government cheque frauds, were sentenced to-day. Mr. Justice Chapman made a distinction in tho case of Hawkins, whom he sentenced to a year’s reformative treatment. The Makins were each sentenced to two years’ hard labour.
