FORWARD TARANAKI.
Endowed with exceptional natural riches and a productive capacity unsurpassed by any other part of the Dominion, Taranaki is certain to achieve great.succ&ss. The progress of the province has already been remarkable, and its industrial and trading institutions are making substantial headway. Dairy farming is the foundation of the district’s greatness, and several years ago the dairy farmers discovered that cooperation would provide the most effective method of developing the province. Thus Taranaki became renowned for its co-operative dairy companies and its great farmers’ trading establishment—. The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand, Limited. All co-operative movements l|?gin in a small way, but united action is a potent force which brings quick and sound development. In consequence, within a period of eight years the “Farmers’ Co-op.” has grown from the smallest to the largest trading establishment in the province. In this organisation, the farmers have an institution of which they may well be proud—an institution which strengthens their purchasing power and brings to the farm and the home a multitude of necessaries and comforts at reasonable prices. In recent years the “Farmers’ Co-op.” has been prevented by Trade depression from paying big dividends, but its position is exceptionally strong and indirectly it has yielded enormous benefits to the farming community. The large number of shareholders spread throughout Taranaki realise that their financial interest in this co-operative institution is a firstclass investment that will amply repay attention and cultivation. To strengthen his financial interest in the. Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand, Limited, is the aim of the far-seeing farmer. The record of this institution during the trading slump is an outstanding tribute to the efficiency of rural co-operation. What is’ now wanted is not. less co-operation hut more co-operation—not less money' devoted to co-operative enterprise, but more and more money devoted to class o£ business.
