ASSAULTED WOMAN LINGERING.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Waipawa, Jan. 17. At the adjourned inquest on Puhi Maiha, who murderously assaulted his wife on January 2 and afterwards shot himself, a verdict was returned that death resulted from a gun shot wound self inflicted. The evidence showed that deceased pleaded with his wife not to go away with another Native, but the attitude of the woman suddenly turned his pleadings into rage, and Maiha struck her violently with a hammer on the head. He 'afterwards secured a gun and shot the top of hie head away, i Mrs Maiha is still lingering, but is in a very low condition.
