PETROLEUM PROSPECTS.

AUSTRALIA WANTS INFORMATION. GEOLOGISTS TO REPORT. The attention of the Governments of New South Wales and of South Australia has been directed to the petroleum deposits of North Taranaki, and three leading geologists, including Professors Andrews and Ward, are expected Io be in New Plymouth some time during next month to investigate and report on the petroleum indications. The investigations are being carried out at the request of the Governments mentioned, to whom their reports will be furnished. The geologists have been attending the recent Science Congress in Wellington and intend to visit Mt. Cook and the Southern Alps before coming to Taranaki. After concluding their investigations into the oil deposits, they will go on to Rotorua.
