LAND VALUATIONS
>. X C LOCAL BODIES’ PROTEST. ) Dissatisfaction with th? methods of laud valuations for taxation purposes was expressed by yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association at Eltham. The chairman (Mr. C. J. Belcher) Haid the valuation in the Eltham county had been taken at the peak of land prices. Other districts had oeen valued at varying periods--some as long as ten years ago—and consequently there was no equality of valuation. The valuations would considerably affect the Taranaki Power Board and other, bodies. He thought they should get valuations that would come into operation over the various districts at the same time. Strong representations from the association should have some effect. Mr. A. Alorton said that the hospital boards had been moving in the matter with very little result. Mr. J. B. Murdoch sard if an individual applied for a revaluation he would probably get it, but revaluations over a wide area could hardly be expected. After some further discussion it was decided that two members of the executive should wait on the Valuer-General with a request that the valuations on the recently high valued land be reduced.
