DAILY NEWS AGENCK Advertisements and items of news for publication in the Taranaki Daily News should bo left at the office of our local representative, care Mr. AV. 11. Humphrey, Broadway, Stratford. Orders for papers may also be left with him. THE LIBERAL RALLY. January 17. Final arrangements arc being made for the Liberal rally at Stratford at 11 a.m. to-morrow. In the afternoon the picnic in King Edward Park should be a most enjoyable function. Short speeches will be given by prominent Liberals from various parts of the' Dominion, and special provision will be made for the amusement of the young people. The ’Stratford Brass Band will be in attendance and tea, sugar, milk and liot water will be supplied free. It is proposed to hold a big gatheringin the Town Hall in the evening, when an orchestra will provide music and the speakers will again deliver short addresses. Entrance to the grounds will be by way 'of Page Street. The whole function is complimentary to Mr. R. Masters, M.P. IE very endeavor is being used to piake tlje .politicians’ visit to Stratford a pleasant one. Mr. Wijford and his party will arrive from New Plymouth by the mail train and will‘be motored to the Ngaere Gardens. After the addresses in King Edward Park the party will motor to Dawson’s Falls mountain house and remain there for dinner, returning to Stratford in time for the conversazione in the Town Hall at S o’clock.

PROAHNCTAL SPORTS GATHERING. Another meeting of the committee promoting th© Scouts’ provincial sports meeting at Stratford on January 25 was held last night, why there was a large and representative gathering. The various officials for the gathering were appointed. Everything points to a most successful gathering.

GENERAL ITEMS. The farewell meeting to Ensign and Mrs. Hawkes, held in the Salvation Army Hall last night, was well attended. Sergt.-Major Baker presided, and eulogistic references to the departing officers were mad© by Treasurer Bateman, Secretary McCallum, Mrs. Close, and Mr. R. H. Witt. Ensign Hawkes made a suitable response on behalf of himself and Airs. Hawkes. During the evening, Miss Ivy AA'itt sang a solo; Bandsmen AA T . L. and H. Heard gave an instrumental item; Mr. and Mrs. Heard gav(>a vocal duct; (he band played two Ttefns. and the children of the corps contributed company The residents of Stratford and district are notified that Ernest Davies, the LonStratford every Tuesday, and may be consulted at Mr. Gaffaney’s, Broadway.
