REVIVAL OF THE SPORT. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB FORMED. A revival of interest, in evcling, a sport wfiiich for the ln<st eight nr ten years has been allowed to languish In New Plymouth, was brought about at a meeting of enthusiasts last night, who decided to form a club, tn bo known ns the New Plymouth LeagueCycle Chib.
Mr. E. L. Humphries, who presided over a large attendance, said the big advantage nf the club would be that members could, if necessary, protest to the New Zealand Cvcline and Athletic Association through the club, a course they could not take as individuals. Barlow: committee. Messrs. W. Roebuck. .1. Cross. A. Enping. G. Collingwood. D. George. H. Julian. W. J. Haldane: tnry and treasurer (pro tern), Mr. E. L. Humphries. The appointment of an auditor K 94 held over.
The subseriptlcn <or the first year was fixed at 2s 6d. Twenty-eight members joined !n the room.
The chairman and the president both •’trcp.sed on the members the necessity for nlaying the game. Cycling was not a moneymaking business, but a sport, and if they showed they were in the game purely for the snort then the club would be a success and the public would rally round the club.
The club’s first meeting will be held at the Recreation Grounds at 6.15 pm. on Wednesday. January 24. when two-mile open and one-mile maiden races will be decided.
