The final Lithuanian attack on Memel was made by several hundred volunteers under M. Simonditis, head of the Government which the invaders established. - . The invaders penetrated the outskirts during the morning, and then demanded the surrender of the French garrison, numbering 200. The latter’s position is hopeless, us their ammunition has run out. “ British and French warships are approaching, but cannot arrive till tonight. A panic prevails throughout the territory, and all the workers have downed tools. It is believed the invasion is intended to spoil ’ Poland’s claims to take over the territory. German newspapers attribute importance to Poland’s decision to call up its seventeen-year-olckj and suggest that Poland has 'secretly agreed with France to invade Germany in the event of the Ruhr occupation producing a FrancoGerman diplomatic rupture. Received. Jan. 16, 10.30 p.m. Berlin, Jan. 15. Lithuanians, after fighting all day long, occupied Memel. They disarmed the French garrison.
