Two years ago I took a motor ’bus from Thomas and Johnson, this costing .me just about £lOOO. Of this amount I owed £640 to Thomas and Johnson, and I borrowed £3o'o from the Repatriation Board, and £lOO went to Wellington as deposit for the ’bus. At first 1 did fairly good business with the ’bus. but it would not stand up to th 6 work, and required continual repairs. There was also extra competition in reduced fares. Through these causes I , found that I was running into debt more every day. F found it to pay off any debts, and, seeing my position was hopeless, I filed my petition in bankruptcy after losing everyi thing I had.” Examined on oath by the D.0.A., bankrupt said he had no assets except the book debts in Mr. Cattley’s hands, and a small amount in the UanK- of New Zealand. He had no savings bank account, and his life was not insured. He kept no books, but would guarantee to produce his bank pass-book, which showed all his dealings except benzine accounts, which did not go through the hank. The bankrupt denied that he lost | £lOO in one day at “put and take.” He did not lose anything at all. as he did ' not gamble, go to race meetings, or | play cards. As bankrupt could make no offer, the I meeting was adjourned sine die.
