TARANAKI’S GREAT TRADING ASSET. Very few of the residents of the Taranaki Province realise the value of the great co-operative trading company that has grown in this territory during the past few yeans. The establishment in 1914 of the firm known as the Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand Ltd., Hawera, marked a new 7 era in commercial operations in this part of New Zealand. It provides the farmers of the district with a means of securing on the most favourable terms, adequate supplies of all necessaries for the farm and the home. It should be a, matter for the greatest pride that this trading concern has grown to such large proportions and overcome so many difficulties connected with the purchase and distribution of merchand ; se. During one of the most I trying periods in the history of the I Dominion the Farmers’ Co-operative I Organisation Society has achieved re!suits, which compare more than favourI ably with the operations of shnilar institutions, both co-operative and privately owned, in other parts of New Zealand. A huge volume of business is now transacted and a large proportion of Taranaki’s population is bemg supplied with first-class merchandise at reasonable prices. In addition the Company has acquired sound assets valued at over £l-00.000 and has entrenched its position in the trading world. All this has been achieved as a result of the far-seeing action of a few 7 Taranaki farmers who established this groat institution in 1914. Remarkable as it may seem the Company has succeeded in conducting its enormous volume of business with a turnover of over £1,000,000, . per annum without making any heavy i calls upon the unpa’d capital which is 'due for subscription by the sharerolderfi. The residents of Taranalc should plane their moral and financial support behind this great trading institution which i is one of the most valuable assets of the province.
