BILLIARDS AND SNOOKER.
TARANAKI AFFILIATED CLUBS. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. Great interest was taken in the Taranaki affiliated clubs' initial billiard and snooker championship tournament, which was held in the Egmont Club, Stratford, on Thursday nignt, the club being crowded. The New Plymoutn, Egmont, C.E.M.S. (Eltham), and South Taranaki clubs each entered their best players in each game, and the rivalry was ■ very keen. In billiards W. Preece (New Plymouth) beat T. E. Bridger (Egmont) and E. Forster (Eltham) beat W. Patterson (South Taranaki). In the finals there was a keen contest between Preece and Forster. At one stage Forster had a lead of over 100 and looked like winning, but Preece drew away and won by 39 amid great applause. Playing Snooker, P. Brooking (Egmont) beat C. Cooper (Eltham) and E. A. Pacey beat C. McCallum (South Taranaki). In the finals there was brilliant play between Pacey and Brookinj*. Pacey required to pot all the red balls to win, and this he did, playing some very difficult shots. At 'the conclusion of the tournament, Mr. A. K. Smart, president of the Affiliated Clubs* Association, presented the Affiliated Clubs’ challenge shield to the winners, the Egmont Club. Handsome gold medals were presented to the winners of the night's tournament, Messrs. Pacey and Preece. A very enjoyable supper was served, and a musical programme was given by Fox’s orchestra, and Mr. Peter Aitken gave two The evening was one of the best successes the dub has witnessed for some time.
