MACLAREN’S ENGLISH TEAM. ARRIVAL IN SYDNEY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Nov. 22. MacLaren’s team has arrived. They express themselves well satisfied with the result of the matches so far and with the practice they are getting. They consider they can improve their? showing in future. The team Is remarkable for tall men, four standing over six f n et high. They expect to leave for New Zealand on Saturday week. YOUNG PLAYERS AND TRIERS. Received Nov. 23, 8.5 p.m. Sydney, Nov. 23. At a civic reception to A. C. MacLaren’s team, at the Town Hall, MacLaren said he hoped the spectators would overlook any apparent weaknesses in his young players. They were all triers. The team was especially strong in bowlers, as was demonstrated in the Melbourne match. He advised the younger men of the team not to take undue notice of the criticisms of Australian cricket writers, who had not played so much cricket as he and Iredale had. The primary object was a tour of New Zealand,, but they were glad of the opportunity of meeting international players, as it afforded a greater education than they could get otherwise. MacLaren’s reference to Press critics is understood to refer to an allegation made in one of the other States, that In one match they played for a draw. He declares this statement unjustifiable and not a fair deal. A more sporting crowd of boys never left England, and'they would always play the game. ENGLISH TEAM IN AFRICA. Capetown, Nov. 22.
