AMERICAN CONGRESS.
SPECIAL SESSION OPENS. LIQUOR ISSUE RAISED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Washington, Nov. 20. The special session of the Senate adjourned immediately, and is now awaiting President Harding’s message, which will be presented on Tuesday. Mrs. W. H. Felton, aged 87, the first woman Senator, took her seat, amidst a demonstration. In the Lower House, the wets lost no time in launching the fight for the enactment of the Soldiers’ Bonus Bill, the bonus to be paid out of a tax on legalised beer. Representative Hill (Republican) proposed a re-enactment of the adjusted compensation measure killed by the Presidential vote last summer. He suggested a twenty cents per gallon levy on 2.75 per cent, beer in order to raise bonus funds.
