Mr. Henry Law, formerly of To Roti, and now of Hokianga, is on a visit to Taranaki.
A London cablegram says that Mr. Rudyard Kipling, who underwent a serious operation, is progressing satisfactorily.
Monsignor Power, who has been on a v isit to Australia, returned by the Maunganui, and motored to Hawera on Wednesday. Archbishop Redwood returned by the same vessel. The Archbishop -was greatly benefited in health by the trip.
Mr. Alexander Reid, of Hawera. an cld and much respected settler, died on Thursday. He was born in Dunedin 59 years ago, and when quite a young man removed to the North Island, most of the last 31 years having been spent in the Taranaki district, for 14 years in Whangamomona. During the past 9 years he has rendered valuable service ta the A. and P. Association as caretaker of the Egmont show grounds. As recently as Tuesday of this week he was at his post, but at the close of the day had a seizure which necessitated his immediate removal to an hospital. Deceased leaves a wife, two daughters (Mrs. F. J. Busing and Mrs. Gordon Mclsaac, both of New Plymouth) and a son (Mr. W. A. Reid, of Hawera). —-Star.
