LAWN TENNIS.

THE PARK CLUB. ANNUAI MEETING. The annual meeting of the Pukekura Park Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was held at New Plymouth last night. Mr. A. W. Diprose presided over a good attendance of members. "The membership list Shows an increase of 25 members,” stated the annual report, ‘‘the total at the end of the season being 111, made up as follows: Tennis, ladies 35, men 53; croquet members 23. Several of our members competed at the annual Taranaki tournament, one of whom was successful in annexing the B grade handicap singles. During the season our club entered two teams in the competitions arranged by the Taranaki Association. Owing to sickness of some of our leading players the teams did not meet with any measure of success. Your committee recommends that the club enters one team only for the ensuing season. The Taranaki Croquet Association conducted an Initial tournament, principal!}’ on the club's lawns. General satisfaction was expressed by the competitors regarding the condition of the lawns. Thanks were expressed to the entertainment committee for their efforts on the club’s behalf, and to Mesdames Honnor and Marshall for two social evenings, which resulted in a net profit of £l5 17s. Since the end of the playing season tlie tennis courts have been re-turfed where necessary, and all the lawns have been topdressed. It is expected that the lawns will be in good order on thfe opening day. At the last annual meeting it was decided to increase the subscription for tennis members by 10s, the club to provide tennis balls. This your committee recommends should be adopted permanently by the club. The debit balance of the club at date is £43 12s 4d, which is slightly less than shown at the end of last season. Amounts spent during the year included expenditure on alterations to courts, wire netting, planking, concrete blocks, iron net supports, centre guides, and alterations to pavilion.” The report and balanw-sheet were adopted. The elect’on of officers for the ensuing season resulted: President, Mr. R. H. Shipton; vice-presidents. Mrs. C. M. Hill, Messrs. C. M. Hill, E. H. Tribe, C. E. Bellringer, W. Marshall, W. T. Hookham, J. Scanlon, R. Wilson. J. J. Lomas, W. and A. Ambury; hon. secretary, Mr. S. E. White; hon. treasurer, Mr. R. H. Shipton; hon. auditor, Mr. G. Knight; counmittee, Mesdames Marshall, Honnor. McGahey, Misses Honnor, Malcolm. Bottrill and Hodder, Messrs. G. Knight, D. M. Wilson, L. Lear}’, W. Reader, and G. Bellringer; club captain, Mr. R. H. Shipton; selection club captain, Miss Malcolm and Mr. W. Reader; delegate to Taranaki Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. R. H. Shipton; trustees for the Pukekura Park Board, Messrs. T. C. List, P. J. Scanlon and F. W T . Sandford. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring secretary Mr. F. J. Shearer) for his untiring efforts on behalf of the club. It was stated that Mr. Shearer did not seek reelection, as he was shortly leaving New Plymouth on transfer. It was agreed that the grounds committee be disbanded, the work to be incorporated in the duties of the general committee. A recommendation was received from the committee that the fees be fixed as follows: Gentlemen £3 ss, ladles £2 ss, croquet players £2. reducible by 5s if paid within a date to be fixed. This, it was stated, was an increase of 10s all round. A lengthy discussion arose over this imatter, It being finally decided that men’s subscriptions be the same as last year, viz., £2 15s, and subscriptions for both iady tennis and croquet players be £2, these not being reducible. The entrance fee for all new members was fixed at ss. .Nineteen new members were elected. A letter was received from the Sports Ground Committee asking for support for the floral fete and queen carnival by the dub nominating a queen. The feeling of the meeting appeared to be against the proposal, but it was agreed to leave the matter to the committee. Opening day was fixed for Saturday, November 4. It was decided that players challenging for a place on the ladder be required to pay a fee of 6d, on each occasion. The question of unflnancial members was discussed at length, the matter of collecting unpaid subscriptions being left in the hands of the committee.
