METHODISM.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the New Plymouth Circuit officials was held in Whiteley Hall on Tuesday evening. The Rev. W. J. Elliott presided over a good attendance of stewards and trustees, and was supported by the Revs. J. Nixon, J. F. Martin, and the circuit stewards, Messrs C. Carter, and C. E. Bottrill, M.A. The reports concerning the membership of the churches and Sunday schools were very satisfactory. The balancesheet was considered good, and the meeting felt justified in voting £2O towards the unemployment fund, to be increased by other donations of the Church. Messrs J. F. Griffin. \V. Ambury, and W. Chatterton furnished favorable reports upon Centenary, Sunday Schools, and Ff'-e'gn Mission income, and the chairman intimated that the Rev. A. J. Sesmer would visit the circuit in the interests of Home Missions. It was resolved to comply with the request of the Taranaki Phohibition Council that the Rev. J. F. Martin be permitted to engage in special propaganda work prior to the poll. The recommendation of the local preacher’s meeting that some evening services be held at Carrington Road was agreed to. The circuit stewards were authorised to invite the Rev. Percy Battey, of Rotorua, to succeed the Rev. J. F. Martin as second minister in the circuit in April next. During the course of the meeting the chairman extended a cordial welcome to Messrs L. M. Moss, 8.A., and J. Neilsen, late of Auckland. It was intimated that tlie Rev. C. H. Laws, D.D., Principal of the College, and President of the Conference, would visit the local Church at an early date, and that the North Taranaki Ministers’ Association will meet in New Plymouth at. the same time. Several votes of sympathy in cases of bereavement were recorded and authorised to be communicated.
