In the mixed doubles O'Hara Wood and Mdlle. Lenglen beat Drew and Mrs. Middleton 6—l, 6—l; Lycett and Miss Ryan beat Altenberg and Mrs. Cobb; Wertheim and Mn. Lambert Chambers beat Burr and Mias Stevenson. In the doubles, Wertheim and Barclay beat Glover and Sir G. Thomas. England will be represented by Kingscote, Lycett, Gilbert and Campbell in the Davis Cup match p gainst the winners of Spain v. India tie. The Patterson 'v. Jvßngsdote match was the star attraction in the centre court, and was witnessed by a huge crowd. The Queen and Lord Balfour attended. The match wUI rank as one of the roost determined contests in the history of the game. Patterson’s lightning service dominated the first set, and he had the Englishman easily beaten. Kingscote took the second and third by hard work, assisted by Patterson’s mistakes and faults. The fourth was played in a drizzle and bad light. Patterson’s forcing tactics at last overcame the Englishman. With the score two sets all, the play was followed breathlessly. Kingscote took the first game on th© Australian's service, Patterson taking the next two. The Australian led at 40-15 in the seventh, but the game went to deuce four times, through .Patterson's double faults. He won the final couple of comfortably. Though a hard-fought struggle, it was not marked by long rallies or the highest quality of play. Patterson never showed his beat form. He sacrificed accuracy overmuch to sheer force. Kingscote showed a great variety of strokes, but was worn down.
