AMERICAN TARIFFS.
INCREASES ON FOODSTUFFS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Washington, July 1. The Senate Tariff Committee agreed upon a tariff of 30 cents per bushel on wheat. Senator Underwood declared that this would increase Americans’ food bill by a hundred million dollars annually. In nearly every case the committee increased the duties %n fruits over the House of Representatives’ figtires. Jellies, jams and marmalade carry a duty of 40 per cent, ad valorem, from 28 per cent.; peaches, pears, plume, prunes (save in the fresh state or in brine) were increased from 20 per cent, to 40 per cent. •
