A motion of condolence with Cr. S* Vickers in the death of his brother was passed at yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki County Council, members standing.

A London cable says the funeral of the Hon. Huia Onslow, son of the Earl of Onslow, took place at Guildford. The coffin was covered with a Maori chieftain’s rug in memory of the fact, that the Hon. Huia Onslow was regarded as a chief of the Ngatihuia tribe. The Rev. J. F. Martin, of Fitzroy, has received and accepted a unanimous invitation to the Dundas Street Church, Dunedin, to take effect from April next, subject to the approval of the conference, which meets in February. An Auckland message reports the death of Mr. Seymour Thorne George, cx-M.L.C., aged 71. Mr. George arrived in New Zealand in 1869. He contested and won the Hokitika seat after being only six days in the electorate. He was twice member for Rodney, but subsequently failed in a contest for the Parnell seat. He was caled to the Legis-i jlative Council in 1903. I On their retirement from the Governpnent service Mr. John Campbell, GovI eminent architect, who has retired on superannuation after 40 years’ public j service, and Mr. L. E- Richards, assistiant Government architect, who has also I retired on superannuation, were given a I send-off at a representative gathering at j Wellington and received presentations. (The Hon. J.
