EVERYBODY’S. “THE SIN OF MARTHA QUEED.” A potent drama based on the power of thought, the crime of mental sin, is “The Sin of Martha Queen,” starring Mary Thurman at Everybody’s to night. The 'sin of‘Martha Queed existed only in the poisoned mind of her suspicious, tyrannical, bigoted father, a role enacted by that splendid actor, Joseph J. Dowling. He was so corrupt of mind that he believed the lying evidence of a scoundrel, instead of the pure truth of his own daughter. He was a descendant of a man who signed the death warrant of his own son for sleeping on guard duty. He could also sacrifice his own daughter on the altar of his false family pride. Mary Thurman, whose dramatic talent has not been hampered by her beauty, is Martha, a-nd Niles Welch is the romantic lead. Interesting .character types are in the capable hands of Frank Campeau and George Hackathorne. A little country seat in the mountains as the locale furnishes a beautiful scenic background for this gripping, and unusual offering. The programme also" includes a two-reel Mack Sennett comedy and the Pathe Gazette.
THE PEOPLE’S. „ LAST NIGHT OF “DOWN HOME.” To-night is the last night of the Irwin Willat production, “Down Home,” a wonderful human drama of plain country folks, featuring an all star cast. Latrice Joy, as Nancy, the devoted daughter, brings to the role all her youth and charm, together with a sympathy for the part that is both unusual and gratifying. William Robert Daly, the veteran stage actor, has created a never-to-be-forgotten character as the village drunkard who struggles to lift the curse which is upon him. Edward Hearn, as the simple, clean-minded youth in love with Nancy, is convincing and lovable in the part, and the rest of all the all star cast are admirable in the parts assigned to them. “Down Home” is a picture you should not miss. The supporting pictures are excellent, including the final screening of episode 3 of “Thunderbolt Jack.” The prices are the usual.
