COURSING.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. ! ' CAN IT CARRY ON? The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Coursing Club was called for last night, but after the annual report and balance-sheet were adopted, a discussion took place on whether the club was in a position to continue. Mr. P. Stainton presided over an attendance of nine members. The chainmail stated that the past season had been a good one, although a monetary loss bad been incurred owing, in many respects, to misfortune by meetings dashing with other fixtures, notably football, and owing to unfavorable weather. Last year the Australasian Waterloo meeting had been held at New Plymouth, and visitors from Australia and other parts of the Dominion had attended, all speaking in terms of appreciation of the conduct of the meeting, the hospitality imet with, and paying a glowing tribute to the prospects of coursing here. All things considered, the chairman thought the dub could look with, pleasure upon the past season. Unfortunately the balancesheet showed a deficit, but probably* this would be a blessing in disguise. The speaker was of opinion that the dub needed reorganising, as the meetings held had been on too elaborate a scale, and had resorted m a loss. Probably a series of smaller meetings, each paying its way, would be better. The hope was expressed that the Incoming committee would strive to liquidate the deficit, and so commence the next season with a credit balance. In concluding, Mr. Stainton expressed the club’s appreciation of the work done on its behalf by Mr. Fred Doughty, the honorary secretary, wlo was “a trojan for work," to the president, Mr. R. Barlow, to the dance committee, which had last year made a clear profit of £4l, and to the ladies for their unfailing assistance. The balance-sheet showed a deficit of £l7 14s 6d, but showed a profit on the year's work. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Barlow, the verbal report and balance-sheet were adopted. Some difficulty was met with when the meeting was proceeding to elect officers for the coming season, and, after considerable discussion, the chairman queried whether the club should continue. Be thought the club's operations should be suspended for a year. Eventually It was decided to circularise members of the Egmont Coursing Club, dogowners, and all others interested regarding the question of an amalgamation of the New Plymouth and Egmont Clubs, with the object of forming a Taranaki Club, in order to make one good club. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. Stainton, Barlow and Doughty was appointed to communicate with those interested in an endeavor to bring this suggestion into effect. On the motion of the chairman the annual meeting was adjourned to a f ? to be arranged after the prospects for affiliation had been investigated.
