CHRISTMAS DAY HOLIDAY.
AN UNUSUAL SITUATION. ACT TO BE AMENDED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Christmas Day falls on Sunday this year, and, as a result, creates rather an unusual situation. In the 1910 Bill, introduced by the then Minister of Internal Affairs with the object of Monday is ing certain statutory holidays, one of the holidays which, when occurring on a Sunday, is to be recognised on the following day, is Christmas Day. Though other holidays may easier be postponed a day, the effect at Christmas leads tn complications. There is however, nothing to prevent race meetings or other holiday sports, which have previously been celebrated on Boxing Day, from taking place on the Mondayised Christmas Day.
Cabinet has been considering the matter as it affects business generally, and it is understood that an amendment to the 1910 Act will be proposed during the session.
