M.P., wrote stating that the executive’s proposals regarding the Pure Seeds Bill had his sympatny. —Received. The Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Education) wrote expressing thanks for information regarding the boys’ and girls’ agricultural clubs movement, and stating that he was much interested in the movement and wished it every success. —Recei v ed. THE FINANCE BILL. Mr. Maxwell referred to the proposed Local Bodies Finance Bill. At present local bodies were able to borrow from rhe bank a sum equal to the total revenue received the previous year. They were also empowered to receive moneys by way of deposits. The part in the Bill to* which he objected was clause 3. At present it was possible to borrow by w r ay of overdraft to the extent of th« total revenue for the previous year. This Bill was to limit the borrow'ing to two-thirds of the revenue. The Bill was going to hamper the local bodies very seriously. It was a matter which concerned the farmers, as it affected the reading policies in their districts. He thought the executive should move in the matter. It was decided, on his motion, to telegraph the member for the district asking that ho should oppose clause 3 • in the Bill, as it was inadvisable to ’ hamper the finance of local bodies at. ; the present time. GENERAL.. The chairman referred to the appoint- j menr, of Mr. J. W. Deem to take charge of the experimental farm at Moumaha- ■ ki. He considered that Mr. Deem was | well qualified to fill the position, and • would do justice to it. He thought j that one or two experiment I farms were enough for this country, witn demonstration areas elsewhere, and he was glad that the Minister had now .taken” that view on the subject. The Government had got a man who wa> fully qualified to take Mr. Deem was doing a great work for the ; •farmers, and he only hoped that the ; value of the work would be recognised . throughout the Dominion. Speaking for the farmers, he felt certain that there was not’ a man in the whole of the farming community who did not wish Mr. Deem success in his new position. They had been very fortunate in Taranaki in having such splendid men in the department to assist, them. On Ins motion it was resolved that the executive congratulate Mr. Deem on his appoint- , ment.
