CLEARING OUT CRIMINALS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Nov. 11. The Minister of Justice, in a statement. denounces the conditions under which Australia is being made the dumping ground of criminals. Inter alia, he says: “New Zealand apparently dumps her undesirables into Sydney without restriction, whereas it is almost impossible for a Sydney criminal to find a footing on New Zealand soil.” The Minister adds that this was exemplified not long ago when a Government official, making a trip to New Zealand, was intercepted on the wharf and compelled to allow his luggage and papers to be searched on suspicion of being the agent of a particular organisation. The Minister concludes with ‘the declaration that the Commonwealth should at least make representations to New Zealand as regards the wholesale deportations of criminals to Sydney, and at the same time block their landing.
