INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) October 28. At the Magistrate’s Court, held at Inglewood on Wednesday, the case of Visaljko Bros. v. W. I. Thomason was heard, in which Visaljko Bros, sued Thomason for £3’s 16s 6d, being balance on resale of horse bought at auction under warranty, resold 'for £2l 10s less than the original purchase price, plus expenses entailed. Lengthy evidence was given, including that by Mr. Cutfield, the auctioneer at both the original sale and re-sale, and Mr. G. W. Taylor, M.R.C.V.S., and Mr. R. V. Wood, Government veterinarian, who had examined the animal after an interval of about six Weeks. Judgment was given for the plaintiffs for £29 16s fid and costs £9 7s fid.

Tn the list of passes at the term examinations at Victoria College the names are mentioned of three whom Inglewood claims as »her. offspring—<viz., Miss Eileen D. Leech nod Messrs. R. Greiner and C. Winfield. Miss Leech’s passes are in mathematics, pure and applied, and French, class Til., and oral French, class TIL R. Greiner is claimed as of Inglewood birth, though his parents now live in New Plymouth. His passes include criminal law, class TIL, property, and contract, class JI. And C. Winfield, Inglewood to the core, passed in jurisprudence, Roman law, tests and contract. Congratulations on these very gratifying results are heartily offered to their parents as well as to the candidates themselves.

Sales were held in the Farmers’ Coop. yards on Wednesday and Thursday, the former being the regular fortnightly general stock sale, the latter the spring bull fair. For the general sale there was a good yarding of stock, but the effect of the general falling-off in prices was evident. A line of ewes and lambs sold for 12s, yearling steers from 25s to 28s, mixed yearling heifers 50s to 60s, empty heifers 2 years Jersey cross £5, mixed £3 7s 6d, springing cows made up to £l4 and a Jersey-Shorthorn heifer £l5. For the bull fair on Thursday there was a good attendance, buyers showing a strong leaning towards grade and pedigree Jerseys. Scrub bulls and aged were not. in any demand by breeders, a hopeful indication for better things in future in this district. A purebred Friesian bull sold for 89s; other mixed breed animals, from to Sgns; 2 to 4-year-old grade Jerseys brought Bgns and I2gns, and as high as ISgns; a 2-year pedigree Jersey, from Mr. Muir’s herd, Brixton, 30gns, and yearlings 25 and 27gns.
