EXCESS WATER. IN BUTTER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Oct. 27. A prosecution under the .Sa,le of Foods Act, instituted by the Health Inspector against the Kia Ora Dairy Company, concerning a shipment of butter received from Auckland for distribution resulted in a line of £25 and costs. The butter, on analysis, was found to contain 1'8.74 per cent, of water, an excess of 2.74 per cent, beyond what the law allows. LICENSE’ FOR, MEAT AUCTIONS. Wellington, Oct. 27. Mr. Justice Hosking gave judgment on appeal deciding that an auctioneer who sells meat must hold a meat vendor’s license under the city by-law. ASSAULT ON POLICEMAN. Timaru, Oct. 27.
