STRATFORD SHOW.
The attention of readers Is drawn to tfco advertisement appearing in to-day's issue of ti e twelfth annual show of the Stratford A. and P. Association. The dates set. down for this event are the 23rd and 24th of next imoEth, a time when stock is looking at Its best favorable for breeders to compare the merits of animats exhibited.
A perusal of the schedule, a copy of which may be obtained on application from the secretary, shows that the Stratford Society is keeping well abreast of tie times. Classes, the value of which has disappeared, have been deleted, and others, meeting presentday demands, inserted in their place. Both from a utility and monetary point of view, any whose interests are catered for in the several sections should make further inquiries, and, if they have animals or work which they feel are on the right lines, should send them along to be judged and compared with the best of other peoples. This, from an edu-
cational point of view, is of the highest possible value, and one Which is being increasingly taken advantage of the world over.
As is expected from a dairying district, special attention has been paid to dairy classes. Breeders of stock, be they Jersey, Friesian, Ayrshire, Shorthorn, or crossbred, may stow their stock under most favorable conditions, and without fear of them wanting for feed or shelter. In view of the large entry anticipated an additional paddock has been reserved for green feed, which, with the season’s phenomenal growth, assures an abundance to meet all needs.
Exhibitors of pigs who have visited Stratford on former occasions will doubtless be pleased to learn that the old pens tave been demolished and new accommodation provided. In view of the PerAtt Shield being open for

STAINLESS STEEL AND IRON. A NEW LEASE ,0F LIFE TO SHEFFIELD. “One of the difficulties in connection with the use of stainless steel is that it is so tough that craftsmen find it difficult to work, and in the case of its use in cutlery manufacture the grinders and cutlers are paid extra rates because it takes longer to grind and finish than steel of ordinary temper,” says the Manchester Guardian’s Sheffield correspondent.
“But in spite of this, stainless steel has given a new lease of life to the Sheffield table cutlery trades, and has been most successfully adapted to over a score of domestic and other uses. It is possible to buy stainless steel knives, forks, spoons, fire-irons, fireplaces, kerbs, stair-rods, frying-pans, and numerous other articles, and in the colonies particularly there is a big call for these labor-saving articles.
“Invention has not stopped there. In the course of trying to discover a stainless steel that would be more amenable to the art of the craftsman who makes domestic articles and engineering requisites, stainless iron has been discovered. It is said that it opens the way to the manufacture of hundreds of articles in common use which will never need to know the use of polishing paste or polishing powder. "A very big future is predicted for this new product, which the steel chemist has discovered is easily produced by- using only about two-thirds of the amount of carbon that is found necessary in making stainless steel.”
