WOMAN TAKES DIAMOND RING. By Telegraph—Press Association Christchurch, Last Night. A young woman appeared in the Magistrate's Court this morning charged with the theft of a diamond ring from a pawnbroker in Auckland on September 2. Counsel stated that accused was slightly affected mentally and was not responsible for her actions. She had been mixed up in several extraordinary court cases. She had gone into a pawnbroker’s shop to redeem goods and took the ring off the counter. Accused, giving evidence, stated that she was in a mental hospital three years ago. The magistrate ordered accused to come up for sentence when called upon, provided she remains in a Salvation Army home for twelve months. Publication of accused’s name was prohibited.
